Sealed Knot Society  (Not in printed programme)

On the 13th/14th July we are presenting 'The Battle of Ledbury' at Ledbury Rugby Club, commemorating the actual battle of 1645. The Sealed Knot is a registered educational charity and our aim is to bring to the people of Ledbury the story of this important part of the town's history. We shall be parading through the town on Sunday 14th July raising money for Strong Young Minds, Hereford.

Look out for our Cavaliers and Roundheads in full 17th Century kit around town. Come to our base at St Katherines to find out more about us, try on a helmet, handle a musket and talk about what we do.

Big Apple Association

The Big Apple Association promotes interest in English Apples and Cider, celebrating all aspects of apples and orchards. It encourages visitors and local residents to understand and enjoy the rural heritage of the Marcle Ridge parishes in all their diversity. Regular events are run to celebrate each season of the orchard year.

We will be promoting the Big Apple events, especially our thirtieth anniversary Harvestime weekend in and around Much Marcle this October. We are always on the lookout for new visitors, for people with less usual apples varieties and for volunteers to help with preparation and running of our events. We will be tempting you with samples of our very own cider vinegar!

Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) - Herefordshire

Herefordshire is still one of England's more rural counties. Its beautiful countryside, interspersed with historic market towns and villages, continues to support a traditional way of life. CPRE Herefordshire campaigns and works for a sustainable future for our county.

Community Action Ledbury

Community Action LedburyCommunity Action Ledbury is a registered charity providing transport services to vulnerable people in Ledbury and surrounding parishes. We run the town's Ring and Ride service, delivered by 40 volunteer drivers, serving over 320 users who have difficulty getting around. In the words of one of our users: "The Ring & Ride service is an absolute asset to the Ledbury community ". We also provide wheelchair equipped minibus transport for community groups and run day-trip excursions for the elderly and disabled.

Countryside Restoration Trust

We are a farming and wildlife charity with two trust farms in Herefordshire - Awnells Farm in Much Marcle and Turnastone Court Farm near Vowchurch. We are always looking for volunteers to help with our wildlife monitoring, practical conservation work or helping with events at Awnells Farm.

Cricket - Ledbury Cricket ClubLedbury Cricket Club goes from strength to strength in its new permanent location at Orlham Lane where we have award-winning facilities. We are now delighted to be sponsored by Celtic Marches. We have a thriving junior section running teams at Under 9, 11 and 13 with Friday training evenings for boy and girls from ages 5 to 15. For seniors, we run two Saturday league XIs with a full programme of friendly games.

Cycling - Ledbury Area Cycle Forum (LACF)

Cycling - Ledbury Area Cycle Forum (LACF)LACF promotes cycling as a healthy, low cost, practicable and fun means of transport for all ages. We negotiate for active travel (walking and cycling) provision in new developments. We organise community cycling events, design and produce cycle route maps and run a website as a one-stop-shop resource for cyclists (and non-cyclists). We have an electric bike for people to take out on free loan - a 'test before you invest' opportunity for those considering buying an e-bike.

We are a local group of volunteers with the aim to advise and help people in Ledbury and district to save energy and save money. We are available to make presentations to other local groups about Energy Awareness.

Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them to achieve their full potential. We are an independent charity offering support, friendship and practical help to families experiencing stress and finding it hard to cope and have at least one child between 0-19.

Horticultural Society - Ledbury Horticultural Society

Ledbury Horticultural Society has existed since 1875, and is renowned for its Annual Show held on Bank Holiday Monday (Ledbury Carnival Day).

We will be advertising our society and in particular our Flower show held on August Bank Holiday Monday. We will have cups, rosettes and images of previous shows on display together with copies of the 2019 show schedule. We are encouraging the younger generation and young families of Ledbury to participate in the show this year and asking everyone, participants or not, to come along on show day - 26th August.

LADS has a long history of entertaining Ledbury with shows of all kinds, and its splendid annual pantomimes. LADS was instrumental in the development of the Market Theatre which opened in 2000 and is now the base for its operations, and which the Society owns on behalf of the Community.

The money that we raise provides high quality care by Marie Curie nurses in Herefordshire, free of charge to people with all terminal illnesses in their own home. We have a fantastic band of supporters who come and help us when they can.

Refugee Support Group - Ledbury

Conflicts in the Middle East - Syria's civil war and the struggle in Yemen - are among the worst humanitarian crises of our time. Millions of displaced people are struggling with the trauma of losing their own country and those still trapped in the hostilities face starvation and disease. Working alongside One Nation Charity, Ledbury Refugee Support sends emergency supplies to refugee camps outside Syria and to Yemen for those most in need and who face very uncertain futures.

St Katherine's and Market Surgery Patient Participation Groups (PPGs)

It is a requirement in the GP Contract for all practices to have a PPG. The role of the PPG includes advising the practice on the patient perspective and providing insight into the responsiveness and quality of services, encouraging patients to take greater responsibility for their own and their family's health, carrying out research into the views of those who use the practice and regular communication with the patient population.

Members of Ledbury's two PPGs will be present to tell you about their work within the surgeries and how you can help them and provide feedback on the surgeries' services.

Our club was founded in 1991 to enable visually impaired persons to increase their enjoyment in life by taking part in social activities and outings. Various speakers are arranged and also visits to Hereford Resource Centre, where members can purchase special aids for their particular problem.

Ledbury Youth Council has been formed with help from John Masefield High School and Ledbury Town Council to give the young people of our town a say in how things happen and, indeed, what happens, and to play an active role in the community.

Bell Ringers (St Michaels Church, Ledbury)

Bell ringing has been going on for over 400 years in our country. St Michael's Church Ledbury has a peal of 8 bells, hopefully soon to be expanded to 10 bells.

Members of the band of bellringers will be happy to explain what we do and how you can start to learn this traditional English "exercise ". We will be running a stall with literature and video information. You can also have a go on our bellringing simulator under that Market House. We shall invite you to join us at a Tuesday night practice at 7.30 pm to see what we do.

Community Choir, Ledbury

As a Community choir we are involved in many of the town's activities such as singing at the switching on of the Christmas lights, the Town carol service, the Civic service and others. We do two main concerts a year and the proceeds from the Christmas concert goes to a local charity. There are no formal auditions, we ask only that you sing in tune!

Members from the Community choir will be on hand to tell you about the choir, where and when we meet, what sort of music we sing., concerts that we perform. Examples of music will be on show as will photographs of our many concerts and activities.

Friends of Ledbury Parish Church

We want the people of Ledbury to understand the rich historic, artistic and religious legacy of the church over the last 1000 years and to enjoy visiting it with family and friends. A published programme of talks and social events will offer a variety of opportunities to make the most of membership. The church is the oldest building in the town and offers a fascinating insight into the town's development over time.

Herefordshire Ornithological Club

The Herefordshire Ornithological Club promotes education and the study of wild birds and their conservation in Herefordshire. Anyone of any age interested in birds and bird watching is welcome: student or adult, beginner or expert, local patch enthusiast, professional ornithologist or freelance consultant. The Club supports conservation through a small-grants conservation fund and by contributing to local and national surveys. We can provide advice on conservation matters relating to birds.

Our aims are to raise interest in Ledbury and its surroundings, promote high standards of planning and architecture, and secure the preservation, protection and improvement of features of historic, natural and public interest.

Maritime Cadet Unit - LedburyLedbury now has a thriving Maritime Cadet Unit which meets at the Burgage Hall, Church Lane, every Wednesday evening between 7 and 9pm and is open to boys and girls aged 8 to 18 years of age. Lots of activities to enjoy including canoeing, camping, sailing, football, swimming and many more.

Ledbury Country Market is a true co-operative run by members and volunteers selling homemade, home grown and hand made local produce by local people for the local community. You can find us in The Burgage Hall just off the High Street in the heart of historic Ledbury on Friday's from 8.30 to 13.00.

Naturalists Field Club - Ledbury

The club was founded in 1967 to give local people, who have a general interest in natural history, the opportunity of furthering and sharing their knowledge. Our activities run throughout the year with indoor talks in winter and an outdoor field programme in spring/summer.

Probus Club of Ledbury

The Club is for men who are of retirement age or will soon be reaching it and who have some form of professional or business background. Our talks cover a vast range of subjects to appeal to all tastes, and members are invited to question speakers and to add their own observations. About half our talks are given by members, reflecting their own interests and experiences.

Ask us about the range of talks and activities our members enjoy at our regular two-hour Monday morning gatherings and in other outside social activities. Our members will be pleased to explain in more depth how much they enjoy their participation in the Club, and invite those interested to come along for a couple of meetings, without any commitment to join, to see if membership would attract them.

U3A (The University of the Third Age) is a nationwide organisation based on local groups providing opportunities for retired and semi-retired people to come together and develop their interests. We don't study for qualifications, we just enjoy taking part, meeting people and learning from one-another. Members share their knowledge and experience with others in interest groups, running informal activity sessions covering a wide range of subjects and activities.

The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation sponsored by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence and the British Army. Along with the Sea Cadet Corps and the Air Training Corps, the ACF make up the Community Cadet Forces. The Ledbury detachment meets in Little Marcle Road.

Butcher Row House Museum (Ledbury and District Civic Society)Butcher Row House Museum features many items of local interest including reproduction helmets and breastplates that would have been worn in the Battle of Ledbury in 1645 and a small? collection of musical instruments ranging from a 'hurdy-gurdy' to a Tibetan pipe fashioned from a thigh bone.

Heritage Centre, Ledbury (Ledbury Places)The story of Ledbury's past is displayed in this timber-framed building dating from 15th Century, which is believed to have been built by East Anglian woollen merchants. It became a Latin Grammar School until about 1840. Local volunteers man the Heritage Centre, now owned by Ledbury Places, a local Charitable Trust.

Discover Ledbury's history at the Heritage Centre. We have displays of our local history, including the building of the canal and the railway, the geology of the area, the development of the town and our famous poets John Masefield and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Don't forget to look up and down our massive chimney and try your hand at old fashioned' sums. Come and see our new sales area - donations welcome!

Quilters - Ledbury Quilters

In The Weavers Gallery. We are a friendly group who meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month in the Baptist Church Hall at 7.30pm. We welcome anyone with an interest in Patchwork and Quilting and regularly have outside speakers who are experts in their field. Alternatively local members give demonstrations or run mini workshops. Full day workshops are held two or three times a year.

We will be showing a variety of recent work and demonstrating various techniques. This is an opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn more about this creative pastime.

Painted Room (Ledbury Town Council)

Wall paintings were discovered in the Town Council offices during major restoration work in 1989 and have been dated to the mid 1560s. They represent the expensive tapestries and leather hangings that would normally be found in the homes of wealthy aristocrats, and are thought to be the work of a jobbing artist who has created a cheaper version for the up and coming Merchant Gentry.

The 16th Century Painted Room will be open as usual on Community Day. Our knowledgeable guides will give you a short introductory talk (5 minutes) and show you the special paintings. We have children's costumes for dressing up and a small set of stocks to entertain the children! Free

St Michael's Parish Church is the oldest and largest civic building in Ledbury and has been described as "the premier parish church of Herefordshire ". The church site has been a centre for Christian Worship for over 1,000 years. We welcome all to our services - our message is "Worshipping God, following Jesus, sharing His love ".

Friends of the Master's House

Friends of the Master's HouseThe Friends of the Master's House are a group of volunteers who are passionate about the Master's House and its place in the past, present and future of Ledbury. This incredible Grade II* listed building in the centre of Ledbury is one of the remaining parts of the medieval St Katherine's Hospital. The original 500 year-old timber frame structure of the building is hidden under layers of Georgian brickwork and Victorian additions.

The Friends of the Master's House will be sharing details behind the architecture and history of the Master's House, including opportunity to be taken upstairs to view from the balcony. Guided tours may also include St Katherine's Hall and Chapel which are part of the original medieval hospital site. Artist Blacksmith Stephen McCrae demonstration in Courtyard between 10am and 2pm.

John Masefield Society

John Masefield SocietyJohn Masefield (Poet Laureate 1930-1967) was born and raised in Ledbury. Although he travelled widely and became internationally famous, he never lost touch with members of his family who lived in the town. The John Masefield Society was founded in 1992 to stimulate the appreciation of and interest in his life and works. The John Masefield Archive located in the Master's House contains documents relating to the life and work of Masefield, including the research papers of Constance Babington Smith.

The Society will be hosting an open archive, a rare opportunity to see the collection of John Masefield's published works, and original letters, photographs and objects.

Bell ringing is a fun and inclusive activity open to all ages and people from all walks of life. It helps to develop coordination, observation, memory and teamwork and is a good exercise. It provides the opportunity for social interaction and community involvement and contributes to the health and wellbeing of anyone taking part. Relatively new ringers and highly experienced ringers can take part together and find it equally rewarding.

We will be bringing along a 12ft high portable bell ringing simulator that feels just like ringing a tower bell. A number of experienced ringers will be present, including qualified ringing teachers. We will be providing demonstrations and giving members of the public the opportunity to have a go.

Brass Band - Ledbury Community Brass Band

Ledbury Community Brass Band is a friendly and fun band. We aim, as a Community band, to be as inclusive as possible and, as a result, we have members of all ages and abilities. Our message, "Brass Music is fun, and people of all ages can learn to play together ".

Our band will perform under the Market House between 10.30 and 11am and 12 noon and 12.30pm. We will also have a stand with information and a selection of brass instruments for people to come along and try out from 1100am to 1200 noon. Fire Station Open Day - Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has 27 Fire Stations including five whole time and three day-crewed Stations. The remaining Stations all operate the retained duty system, including the Fire Station at Ledbury. Retained Firefighters respond to emergency calls from their home or place of work - as long as they can get to their Fire Station within 4 or 5 minutes of being alerted to a 999 call.

Home Educators Gardening Group

Ledbury-Strömstad Twinning Association

Strömstad is the official Twin Town of Ledbury. Strömstad is a lovely Swedish town on the West Coast. The association meet to arrange events including regular exchange visits and maintain the friendly relationship between the two towns.

The Swedish flag will again be flying at Clubsport in Ledbury where there will be a display of photographs, highlighting strong sporting and international links forged between Ledbury Swifts and IFK Strömstad football teams. We will also be celebrating the "Twinnings " - various cultural links with Strömstad Kommun.
