Painted Room (Ledbury Town Council)

Wall paintings were discovered in the Town Council offices during major restoration work in 1989 and have been dated to the mid 1560s. They represent the expensive tapestries and leather hangings that would normally be found in the homes of wealthy aristocrats, and are thought to be the work of a jobbing artist who has created a cheaper version for the up and coming Merchant Gentry.

The 16th Century Painted Room will be open as usual on Community Day. Our knowledgeable guides will give you a short introductory talk (5 minutes) and show you the special paintings. We have children's costumes for dressing up and a small set of stocks to entertain the children! Free

From 1100 - 1300 and 1400 - 1600 to 1600.

Bell Ringers -ledbury Church Bellringers

Bell Ringers -ledbury Church BellringersBell ringing has been going on for over 400 years in our country. St Michael's Church Ledbury has newly restored and expanded ring of ten sweet-sounding bells

We will ring the bells during the morning at 9.30 and 12.30. The tower will be open throughout the morning (except when the bells are ringing) for people to visit with the option of going up to see the bells and on up to the parapet for views of Ledbury. The tower will be manned by volunteers. Members of the public are very welcome to come and see and hear us. Numbers for going up the tower will need to be limited at any one time so some people may need to wait for a short while. There is a much acclaimed exhibition on the ground floor of the tower which is a place we recommend all Ledbury residents to visit. Voluntary donations may be made to the Ringing Education Fund if people are so inclined. We want people to consider learning to ring the bells and also to learn a bit more about an important historic building.
